EMR/EHR

Electronic medical records (EMR) are a digital version of a patient’s chart that store their personal information, medical history and links to prior exams, texts and reports. The goal of these systems is to enable immediate access to the patient's data electronically, rather than needing to request paper file folders that might be stored in fragment files at numerous locations where a patient is seen or treated. EMRs (also called electronic health records, or EHR) improve clinician and health system efficiency by making all this data immediately available. This helps reduce repeat tests, repeat prescriptions and repeat imaging exams because reports, imaging or other patient data is not not immediately available. 

Rural Neb. hospital to deploy Healthland EHR

Dundy County Hospital, a 14-bed critical access facility with two clinics, which serves southwestern Nebraska, northeastern Colorado and portions of Kansas, has purchased Healthlands inpatient EHR.

Canadian CT review finds 180 discrepancies

Canadian authorities have completed the review of CT scan reads performed by one radiologist at St. Josephs General Hospital in Comox and alerted patients and physicians to significant discrepancies in 180 scans.

Indian Health Service EHR earns certificationa federal agency first

The Indian Health Service has become the first federal agency to have its EHR certified for meaningful use. The IHS Resource and Patient Management System Suite 1.0 has been certified as a Complete EHR for ambulatory and inpatient settings, based on criteria established by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT.
