TrumpRx now online as AstraZeneca becomes second pharmaceutical company to join

Another major drug manufacturer has made a deal with President Donald Trump’s administration to join the TrumpRx.gov initiative—a new website that promises to facilitate direct-to-consumer drug sales at discounted prices.

AstraZeneca made the announcement on Friday, saying that it will use the upcoming marketplace to sell medications to “eligible patients with prescriptions for chronic diseases at a discount of up to 80% off list prices.”

Pfizer was the first to sign on to TrumpRx. Originally reported on as “TrumpRx.com” by multiple media outlets—including HealthExec—it is now live with a .gov address. At the time of the original unveiling on Sept. 30, no website was online.

However, a placeholder image featuring a photo of the president is at the center of the content—and details on how it will work, what discounts will be offered, and who will be eligible for the drugs, remain unclear, as it’s not expected to be operational until next year.

Pfizer made their announcement on Sept. 30 alongside Trump. At the time, the company said it intends to sell a large number of its primary care drugs through the platform at a discounted rate. Most discounts will purportedly range from 50% to 85% off the sticker price.

The deal gave Pfizer an exemption from sweeping global tariffs on drug imports for three years, with Trump inviting other companies to sign up during an address from the White House last month.

AstraZeneca is now the second company to take advantage of the tariff loophole, which includes a promise from the drug manufacturer to produce more pharmaceuticals on U.S. soil.

To that end, Pfizer said it intends to invest an additional $70 billion to research and develop drugs in the U.S. as part of the agreement to post products on TrumpRx.

In its statement, AstraZeneca confirmed it broke ground last week on a new manufacturing facility in Virginia, which will support its portfolio of “weight management and metabolic” drugs, among others.

“Additionally, a newly expanded manufacturing facility in Coppell, Texas, will officially open next week,” the company stated. “Looking ahead, AstraZeneca will open a cell therapy manufacturing facility in Rockville, Maryland, early next year and its second major R&D center in Cambridge, Massachusetts will open in late 2026.”

While the newly launched TrumpRx.gov is being run by the federal government, the administration confirmed patients will be buying directly from the drug companies, with the platform acting as an intermediary.

This is a developing story.
