Duke Health partners with analytics firm Trilliant to engage patients

Duke Health is collaborating with data firm Trilliant Health to improve patient engagement efforts, particularly around outreach and community health initiatives. The two organizations said they will also use analytics to enhance operational efficiency.

According to a Thursday announcement, Trilliant will provide the academic health system with access to its analytics platform, which will be used to better understand local patient care demands and referral practices in order to improve services at Duke Health facilities.

As an example, the two firms said they aim to better understand how patients prefer to engage with their providers and facilities, enabling more personalized engagement based on those preferences. In some cases, this information will support improved outreach to underserved communities that may currently delay necessary or preventive care.

“By integrating data science and behavioral insight into strategic planning, health systems can better position themselves to meet the evolving expectations of healthcare consumers,” Hal Andrews, President and CEO of Trilliant Health, said in the announcement.

Trilliant and Duke Health also said they will examine network integrity to ensure the local area can accommodate the healthcare needs of patients who engage with Duke Health providers. This, along with predictive analytics to inform growth, is expected to support decisions about service expansion.

Encouraging loyalty

The two organizations added that the strategic partnership aims to improve patient satisfaction metrics in addition to health outcomes.

“Our ability to plan effectively for strategic growth is dependent upon understanding the communities we serve,” Morgan Jones, Chief Strategy Officer, Duke Health, said.

“Applying predictive analytics allows us to understand real patterns of care, behavior and community need,” she added.

Trilliant Health’s proprietary analytics platform enables organizations to perform market research and develop engagement strategies based on the unique needs of their communities, considering factors such as income, transportation access, environmental conditions and more.

The strategic partnership was recently announced. How this data will directly impact care delivery and patient engagement remains to be seen.
