If the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) decides to ditch its in-house electronic health record (EHR) system for a commercial product, Cerner would be the best vendor candidate, according to a report from Black Book.

The 550-bed Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y. has been working to restore its computer systems since it was hit by a ransomware attack on April 9.

Physicians are evenly splitting their time between office visits with patients and “desktop medicine” activities like typing notes, ordering tests and making referrals through a patient’s electronic health record, according to a study published in the April 2017 issue of Health Affairs.
