Russia rolls out MosMed.AI to standardize healthcare AI nationwide

Russia is seeking to standardize healthcare AI with a new platform, launched in Moscow. According to the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine—calling itself MosMed.Ai—the “innovative computer vision technologies” associated with the program have already been deployed, with an emphasis on reading medical images for the purpose of diagnostics.

While radiology is the primary focus, the standard extends to remote patient monitoring, clinician decision support and data analytics more broadly, as Moscow is attempting to get all regions of Russia on board with this state-funded initiative to broadly expand the use of healthcare AI throughout the nation.

According to the MosMed.AI website—translated from Russian to English—the technologies being piloted also can be used to research and develop new treatments for diseases, in addition to improving workflow efficiencies in the health system.

Speech recognition is also part of the initiative. There are sign-up links for those wishing to prove the value of clinical initiatives associated with the tech.

A united platform

While the website is light on details, undoubtedly these AI products represent several models, given the variety of applications. Russia is presenting all of the above as a unified standard, however, in an effort to get all of its hospitals up to speed.

To date, 74 regions of Russia are on board, representing the majority of the federation.

The entire project comes together after the country passed laws in 2024 to regulate the use of medical AI, which includes how these technologies can be designed and deployed.

More than 2,000 hospitals in the country have adopted the Moscow platform associated with these AI algorithms.
