Nvidia partners with clinical note-taking company to improve suite of AI models
Nvidia is partnering with the developer of an AI app that automatically takes clinical notes, in an effort to better train the model for work in healthcare settings.
The news comes from a report in the Wall Street Journal, where it was revealed that the company behind the AI, Abridge, has the backing of Nvidia, which is an investor.
While Abridge’s generative AI is already on the market, it’s reportedly looking to expand. To do that, it needs to improve its ability to perform healthcare-specific tasks that go beyond accurate documentation of patient care encounters. The AI will also need to be able to draw from records in real time to provide doctors with summarized details on a patient encounter that include medical history, lists of medications, and more.
To develop this full decision support platform, Abridge will train its model using Nvidia’s portfolio of open AI platforms that can be used to improve the efficiency of a wide variety of machine-learning technologies.
Dubbed “Nemotron,” the custom AI models can be used to help in drug discovery, patient treatment and more, as they can be tweaked to aid in any task that involves pulling and aggregating mass datasets.
The report also revealed that this collaboration flows both ways. With access to anonymized healthcare data from Abridge, the “generic” Nemotron models can be further improved for future uses in healthcare.
Abridge, based in San Francisco, raised $300 million in funding last year, giving the startup a $5.3 billion valuation. Founded in 2018, the company develops ambient listening technology that captures conversations between doctors and patients and converts them into clinical documentation.
