Hospital, security contractor sued by nurse victim of patient violence | Study: Lives saved when EMTs have trauma experience

A hospital and its security contractor are facing legal trouble over a brutal beating taken by a unit nurse at the hands of a mentally ill inpatient a year ago. 

EMS colleagues with many years on the job but not much direct trauma exposure set the stage for suboptimal patient outcomes.

The dispute centered around the pharmaceutical company's request for the shot to be approved for those aged 65 and over, a demographic the FDA argued was not properly represented in a 40,000-person clinical study. The company has agreed to perform additional research after the shot goes to market, having appeased regulators with safety data.

A U.S. District Court in Texas ruled that the agency overstepped its regulatory authority in passing the 2024 Biden-era reporting requirement, which would require stakeholders to spend more than 100 hours filling out a long form to give the agency more oversight of transactions. 

Capsules of moringa tree leaf, branded as Rosabella, are being recalled after seven states report cases of the illness, with three patients saying they took the supplement. The company has issued an emergency recall. 

Utah made waves last month when the state announced it would let an AI chatbot autonomously order drugs for patients. The move struck some observers as something of a high-stakes gamble. 

The U.S. Department of Justice said Leticia Gallarzo, 51, most recently pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft in Oct. 2023, but she skipped town and was able to get employment as a nurse and physician assistant in Illinois and California before being caught.

Aultman Health System notified its patients of the data breach in December 2025. However, the breach occurred some 11 months earlier. The organization said the delay was due to an ongoing investigation. The lawsuit against Aultman is seeking class action status.

The new guidance, the first of its kind, focuses on the importance of making a prompt diagnosis and providing care as quickly as possible. While some PE patients with mild cases can be discharged early, others may require an immediate catheter-based intervention or surgery.
