America’s Physician Groups COO dies in scuba diving accident

A C-suite executive at America’s Physician Groups (APG) died in a tragic accident while on vacation, the professional association revealed on Friday.

In a press release, the APG said its chief operating officer, Jennifer L. Jackman, was involved in a fatal scuba diving accident while on holiday in the South Pacific earlier this week.

“She was my right-hand person in running APG, with her superb business skills and nearly irreplaceable knowledge of the California health care marketplace,” Susan Dentzer, APG’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “She leaves an inestimable void for all of us, on both professional and personal levels.”

“We are deeply saddened and send our most heartfelt condolences to her family and our other colleagues in healthcare, who have lost a trusted adviser, wise mentor and a dear friend,” she added.

Jackman was 67 years old.

She joined APG in 2019 “after a long and distinguished career as a health care executive in California,” the nonprofit lobby said. Her resume includes roles as CEO of Edinger Medical Group and Bright Health Physicians of Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital.

Jackman was promoted to COO at APG in 2023.

The group added that she was an “avid amateur scuba diver” who had “previously taken multiple dives worldwide.” The exact circumstances surrounding her death were not revealed.

“Her family, friends, and colleagues will long remember her undying commitment to the success of the Los Angeles Dodgers and her longstanding support for the Center Theatre Group, a Los Angeles-based not-for-profit, along with her devotion to APG,” the organization wrote.

She is survived by her daughter, Devon Prophet; son-in-law Mason Prophet; her granddaughter, Emmerson Prophet; her mother, Carole Harter; her sister, Jessica Jackman Uy; brother-in-law Allan Uy and niece Juliette Uy.

The APG is headquartered in Glendale, California but has offices in Washington, D.C. where it conducts its lobbying efforts on behalf of 260,000 doctors and clinicians, all part of some 340 other organizations.

A memorial to celebrate Jackman’s life will be scheduled for a later day, the APG confirmed.
