Ted Danson's new show will feature AI effort to treat disease

A television series led by actor Ted Danson will showcase how a company is using various technologies, including AI, to help treat type 2 diabetes in India.

"The Advancements with Ted Danson" television series is planning to feature genomics and precision medicine company Shivom in an upcoming episode. The company is using its data and technology—like genomics, blockchain and AI—to help improve the diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes in India. Type 2 diabetes affects about 72 million people in India, and incidences have quadrupled in the last 35 years, according to Shivom.

“The process will involve collecting saliva samples of the patients from which DNA will be extracted, analyzed and secured on Shivom’s blockchain-based genomics datahub. Shivom’s partner—diagnostics leader Genetic Technologies Limited—will help analyze the collected anonymous genomic-samples and data with the goal of developing a diagnostic SNP panel specific to the Indian population,” the company said in a press release.

The show will air at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, Dec. 16 on CNBC.
