Alphabet sees progress in breast cancer care with AI
Ruth Porat, chief financial officer of Google parent company Alphabet, said the company is making progress in breast cancer care thanks to AI, according to a report by CNBC.
While speaking at the World Economic Forum, Porat discussed the company’s recent claim that it created AI technology that could accurately distinguish a slide with metastatic cancer and ones without cancer “99 percent of the time.” The findings were first detailed in a blog post last October, according to the report.
She also noted the company needed less data than before to see “impactful results from AI.”
“We needed only hundreds of biopsies from breast cancer patients—hundreds—in order to have a breakthrough in metastatic breast cancer because of the developments in AI,” Porat said in the report.
