PCORI announces $81M in comparative clinical effectiveness research funding
Patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) received a boost when the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) announced on May 15 its plans to award up to $81 million to this cause.
This latest opportunity represents PCORI’s second year of patient-centered CER funding. Combined with other PCORI funding opportunities, the institute will commit at least $355 million to patient-centered CER initiatives throughout 2013, according to the announcement.
PCORI’s online application process incorporates several improvements to clarify criteria and expectations. The changes stemmed from applicant feedback during previous funding cycles, according to PCORI.
"We are committed to facilitating a new approach to conducting health and healthcare research, one that focuses on the research questions of most importance to patients and that actively involves patients, clinicians, and other end-users of the research in the way it is conducted," said PCORI Executive Director Joe Selby, MD, MPH, in a statement.
Mandatory letters of intent applicants are due June 15 and applications are due August 15. Awards for this cycle will be given in mid-December.
