Most providers skeptical of interoperability roadmap goals
The vast majority of providers surveyed said they are not confident that the healthcare industry will meet the 10-year goal for nationwide interoperability set by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC).
Document management vendor Scrypt surveyed 700 providers and 17 percent expressed their skepticism.
In January, the ONC released its vision for a learning healthcare system by 2024 supported by the nation’s health IT infrastructure.
The survey also revealed that staff or human error is the biggest concern in terms of a potential HIPAA breach within healthcare organizations, despite that fact that 98 percent of respondents have policies in place to keep staff informed about changes in HIPAA compliance within their own practice.
"Interoperability in 10 years is unquestionably a worthy goal, but our experience has shown that this is a complex area and providers need secure universal solutions in the interim,” said Scrypt CEO Aleks Szymanski, in a release.
