Group doctor visits grow in popularity

Long wait times ending in rushed visits with doctors may just be a thing of the past. Patients are joining shared medical appointments where patients attend sessions for eight to 15 people. The meetings last about 90 minutes where a digital whiteboard lists group members’ vital signs, such as blood pressure and weight.

While still relatively rare, the shared appointments have nearly doubled in popularity in the last 10 years, according to the American Academy of Family Physicians. These shared medial appointments are being seen as one weapon for fighting fast-rising diseases like diabetes that threaten to overburden the healthcare system.
