Athenahealth seeks a few good innovators

Athenahealth, a provider of cloud-based services and mobile health tools, is in search of start-ups to participate in its More Disruption Please (MDP) Accelerator program.

The program provides the companies with seed funding, free office space at its Watertown, Mass. headquarters and mentorship opportunities. The program also links the portfolio companies to its network of more than 55,000 healthcare providers through its online platform. Companies interested in working with MDP can access and test athenahealth's APIs through a reimagined developer portal, designed to streamline global connectivity with athenaNet, according to a release.

The accelerator program is an extension to its pre-existing MDP network, which was formed in 2010 to bring healthcare innovators together through conference and hackathons. The athenahealth Marketplace, introduced in 2013, integrates new technologies into athenahealth's cloud-based network to offer complementary services that enhance athenaNet. The accelerator is the third component of the MDP program.

The accelerator program is accepting applications on a rolling basis, with an anticipated residency period of eight to 12 months for each portfolio company.
