AHRQ extends comments on patient-reported health IT and workflow study
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has requested a 30-day extension to accept comments on its proposed research project concerning patient-reported health IT and workflow, according to a May 1 Federal Register notice.
The AHRQ had sought public feedback on the study proposal in the Feb. 13 Federal Register, but no one had responded during the subsequent 60-day comment period. The notice would lengthen the comment period for an additional 30 days, or until May 31.
Through contractor Abt Associates, the agency plans to conduct case studies of six ambulatory care physician practices to collect information on the following:
- How clinicians, clinical staff and patients use health IT to capture and make use of patient-reported information, and how that impacts workflow
- How the sociotechnical context influences workflow related to the capture and use of patient-reported information
- How providers redesign their workflow to incorporate the capture and use of patient-reported information
The study will involve multiday site visits, and include phone calls, pre-visit questionnaires, surveys and interviews of both clinical staff and patients.
“The study will enhance the existing knowledge about sociotechnical factors that impact health IT workflow, and how small and medium-sized ambulatory practices employ health IT to capture and use patient-reported information as they redesign their workflow to deliver patient-centered care,” according to the notice.
