Agfa HealthCares revenues down in 2010 Q1

Agfa HealthCare experienced a 5.2 percent drop in revenue in the first quarter of 2010 compared with the same quarter a year ago, from €291 million ($360 million U.S.) in  2009 to €276 million ($342 million U.S.) in 2010.

According to Agfa-Gevaert, due to the economic downturn the seasonal effects in Agfa HealthCare’s markets were greater than usual, resulting in a strong end of 2009, but a lower top line in the first quarter of 2010. The company said its imaging segment has continued to gain market share, even though its revenue decreased in the U.S. and Europe. Also, its IT sales remained stable.

Agfa-Gevaert posted an €18 million ($22 million U.S.) profit in the first quarter of 2010, compared with a €9 million euro ($11 million U.S.) loss in 2009. Revenues were stable—€664 million ($822 million U.S.) in 2010, compared with €662 million ($819 million U.S.) in the first quarter of 2009.
