2014 sees ‘record high’ corporate digital health investments
Digital health and health IT companies brought in $2.2 billion in funding during the first half of 2014, according to a report from CB Insights.
With two months still remaining in 2014, the digital health space already has seen a record number of digital health deals. Noteworthy deals include Flatiron Health’s $130M Series B (Google Ventures); Health Catalyst’s $41 million Series B (Kaiser Permanente Ventures); and Telcare’s $32.5M Series C (Qualcomm Ventures).
“On a year-over-year basis, digital health/health IT deal activity by corporations already tops that of 2012 by 89 percent and 2011 by 183 percent,” according to CB Insights.
Of all corporate investments, 41 percent have gone to early-stage deals since 2010 while 36 percent of corporate investment deals in digital health or health IT came at the mid stage. Late-stage companies with the largest corporate investments include Practice Fusion, Voluntis and Healthsense, according to the report.
