Abbott completes $123M purchase of lab info systems developer

Abbott has completed its $123 million acquisition of StarLIMS Technologies, a provider of laboratory information management systems.

The companies initially signed the definitive agreement in December 2009.

The acquisition provides Abbott with products to build its position in laboratory informatics, focused on helping to manage the increasing amount of data generated in laboratories, according to the Abbott Park, Ill.-based company.

StarLIMS' web-based software applications help laboratories store, retrieve and analyze data and are designed for a variety of laboratory environments operating across a number of scientific, industrial and clinical disciplines.
