Sylvia Burwell discusses ACA, provider success on podcast

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia Burwell doesn’t have much time left in her position. Her boss’s second presidential term is almost over, so her role as steward of his hallmark policy, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), will be over too.

Burwell’s time as secretary began in June 2014, and shortly after she oversaw the second open-enrollment period for the ACA marketplaces. She was also in charge of HHS during the time when fears of Ebola reaching the U.S. were at their highest.

As her tenure winds down, Burwell spoke with Sarah Kliff from Vox on its podcast “The Weeds.” The 48-minute episode includes discussions about the economic efficiency of the ACA marketplaces and integration of care between a patient’s various providers.

Listen to the episode on platforms that offer podcasts streams or downloads, such as iTunes, Stitcher, tunein and others, to hear more about Burwell’s thoughts on which kinds of providers are doing best in the new healthcare climate.
