Amazon’s OTC business offers pills at steep discount
Retail giant Amazon is selling over-the-counter (OTC) medicines at lower prices than its brick-and-mortar competitors.
“Median prices for over-the-counter, private-brand medicine sold by Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. and CVS Health Corp. were about 20 percent higher than Basic Care, the over-the-counter drug line sold exclusively by Amazon,” Bloomberg reported, citing a Jefferies Group report by analysts.
The company launched its Basic Care business in August and quickly expanded to offer 65 for nonprescription drugs.
Amazon also recently announced it was acquiring online pharmacy PillPack, its first foray into potentially becoming a prescription drug distributor.
