Report: GE HealthCare to buy Sofie Biosciences for $1 billion as part of pharmaceutical diagnostics expansion

GE HealthCare is looking to buy Sofie Biosciences, a private equity-backed business that develops radiopharmaceuticals used for cancer diagnostics and treatment. The deal, which could be announced next week, is said to be worth $1 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The Financial Times was first to report the news, noting it’s part of a larger growth strategy from GE HealthCare as the company looks to expand after spinning off from General Electric in 2023.

While the deal is said to be in its final stages, it could still run into some hurdles, as it has yet to be finalized.

Once complete, however, GE HealthCare would be the sole owner of Sofie BioSciences, which is currently owned by the investment firm Trilantic Capital Partners, with previous owner Jubilant Pharma currently holding a minor stake.

The acquisition fits with the broader GE HealthCare portfolio, as the company currently sells a variety of equipment used for diagnostics, including MRI machines, and CT and PET scanners. If complete, Sofie would join the growing pharmaceutical diagnostics division of GE HealthCare.

Chicago-based GE HealthCare has made a few purchases of other big businesses since 2023. Most recently, it acquired cloud-imaging software group Intelerad Medical Systems for $2.3 billion. That deal was announced in March 2026.

When Trilantic Capital bought its stake in Sofie in 2024, the radiopharma developer was valued at $550 million.

Both Financial Times and Reuters reached out to the companies for comment on the deal. While Sofie did not reply, GE HealthCare declined to comment.

Financial Times added that Sofie is still largely run by its original founders. It’s unclear how new ownership would impact the makeup of leadership.
