Patient care director arrested for allegedly filming nurses with hidden cameras

The former patient care director at a hospital in Texas has been arrested and charged with seven felonies after he allegedly placed cameras in bathrooms all over the facility to spy on nurses and patients.

Robert Shrader, 41, was taken into custody last month and remains out on bond pending trial. In addition to the criminal charges, he also now faces a civil complaint filed by a nurse at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, who alleges she is one of the victims.

The nurse, identified only as A.D., said in her lawsuit that Shrader managed staffing on multiple nursing units, victimizing at least seven people. His acts were only uncovered after a maintenance team discovered the cameras in August 2025.

An investigation pointed to Shrader placing the cameras. According to authorities, he filmed himself doing it, as video of Shrader pushing at least one of them into the ceiling was found on SD cards containing over 300 images and videos.

The hospital, which is not named as a defendant in A.D.’s lawsuit, sent out an email alerting employees to the discovery of the cameras. It’s not clear how long they were operational.

Trial in early stages

In a statement to Fox 26 Houston, Shrader’s attorney said he has “very little information from the state at this point” and asks that everyone “keep in mind the presumption of innocence in our country, to which every person is entitled.”

“Robert has no criminal history of any kind and has had no opportunity to assert his innocence in court, nor an opportunity for my office to review any alleged evidence of wrongdoing,” the attorney added.

In total, two cameras were said to have been discovered at Memorial Hermann. Shrader has since been fired, the hospital confirmed.

This is a developing story; not all the details have been released.
