Report: Budget-friendly plastic surgeon linked to eight patient deaths

A doctor who claims in ads to provide the “Most Affordable Plastic Surgery Center in Chicago. Period.” has been linked to the deaths of eight women, all of whom died after receiving a tummy tuck at 63 Laser & Skin Clinic.

In an investigation, the Chicago Tribune raises questions about the safety and quality of care provided by Ayoub Sayeg, MD—a board-certified plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience.

On his website, reporters note that Sayeg promises satisfaction and claims to have performed 45,000 procedures such as liposuction, facelifts and more on his website YourNewLooks.com.

All the same, he has what the Tribune notes is the highest patient death rate of any plastic surgeon in the county. Of the eight women who died, according to medical and coroner records that reporters said they reviewed, six of them were confirmed to have died due to complications from plastic surgery.

The other two overdosed on pain medications.

In attempting to gauge the death toll, the Tribune wrote that it could only find one other doctor who, since 2015, had more than one patient die.

Notably, Sayeg has also been the target of lawsuits in multiple states, and in 2024 a jury awarded the family of one of his patients a $56 million verdict.

Two lawsuits, of more than 15 that have been filed, are currently pending. Others have resulted in financial settlements, reporters wrote.

Sayeg operates practices in Michigan as well as Chicago.

Regulators responsible for licensing physicians in Illinois told the Tribune they are “currently pursuing the maximum penalty against Dr. Sayeg to bar him from returning to Illinois to practice medicine.”

Sayeg did not respond to comment and has not admitted to any malpractice or negligence.
