HHS Secretary Alex Azar hospitalized with ‘minor infection’
HHS Secretary Alex Azar was admitted to a hospital due to a "minor infection," the agency told reporters in a Sunday night press release.
The two-sentence statement only said Azar received intravenous antibiotics and “out of an abundance of caution he has been admitted to a hospital for observation.” It didn’t address where Azar was hospitalized, as he often returns to Indianapolis to spend weekends with his family, or how long he had shown symptoms.
The Washington Post reported that one person who spoke with Azar on the phone said the secretary was doing work at the hospital and told the person he was “doing fine.” This unnamed source added that Azar had been in the office last week and was expected to return to work soon.
The 50-year-old Azar was sworn in as HHS Secretary on Jan. 29, replacing Tom Price, MD, four months after he resigned.
