West Virginia hospital to acquire neighboring hospital, pending approval from FTC, Vatican

After what seemed like an uphill battle to acquire neighboring a hospital, Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.V. may be gaining some traction after its plan was approved by the Health Care Authority.

Cabell is hoping to acquire St. Mary’s Medical Center, also in Huntington, but the decision is pending approval from the Vatican, because its a Catholic facility, and the Federal Trade Commission, who last year, blocked Cabell from acquiring St. Mary’s out of fear that it would begin monopolizing healthcare in the area.
