Sirio takes on role of CMIO at U. of Toledo

Carl Sirio, MD, is leaving his job at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia to take on three jobs at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio: vice president for medical affairs, associate dean for clinical affairs and CMIO. The multiple titles, Sirio said, reflect the healthcare system’s need to break down silos and collaborate.

“Those in healthcare organizations that continue to offer outstanding clinical care and education in the future will do so because they have effectively integrated health IT into their patients’ care and students’ curriculum,” Sirio said. “Technology’s importance is only increasing and for today’s clinical students, comfort navigating EMRs will be an essential skill.”

According to a Dec. 6 statement, the University of Toledo hopes that Sirio will be as successful in his new roles as his was in his old one at Temple, where he played a leadership role in health IT initiatives and focused on improving healthcare delivery models, quality of care, practice management and evaluation of clinical performance.
