N.Y. governor: Insurers must pay for gender reassignment surgery

 

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo authored a letter mandating that insurance companies cover sex assignment surgery to patients, reports UPI.

The rule would pave the way for transgender patients to obtain transitional operations as well as other treatments. Insurance companies largely view such surgeries as cosmetic in nature, according to the article.
