Mayo Clinic, tech companies launch bedside analytics company

A Mayo Clinic academic clinical team and technology entrepreneurs announced the launch of Ambient Clinical Analytics, a new company focusing on providing bedside critical decision support tools for ICU, operating room and emergency departments (EDs).

The company will utilize technologies, seeded from Mayo Clinic, to offer critical care providers real-time access to process-of-care information and analytics, according to an announcement. These technologies include:

• AWARE (Ambient Warning and Response Evaluation), a clinical EMR tool that utilizes analytics to filter relevant patient data and support best-care practices for ICUs and operating rooms.

• Mayo Clinic YES Board®, a multi-patient management tool that provides real-time situational awareness for EDs and hospital pediatric departments.

• Syndromic Surveillance, which provides smart alerts that address important clinical problems such as sepsis.

• The Synthesis technology, a component for both the YES Board and AWARE, which connects patient data with mobile devices.

Silicon Valley venture capitalists, the Social+Capital Partnership and healthcare organizations Rock Health and Mayo Clinic are backing the company.

“The amount of data behind AWARE is vast, but unlike any other system I’ve used, AWARE shows me what I need to see, at the point of care, organized in the way I think. As a result, I can approach patients in a more standardized and organized fashion,” John M. Litell, DO, attending physician, emergency and critical care medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and assistant director of emergency medicine research at St. Vincent Hospital, said in the press release.

Ambient Clinical Analytic offers two scientifically validated solutions: the patented Septic Shock Sniffer and the patent pending Ventilator-Induced Lung Injury Sniffer. More information on the company can be found here.
