Community Health Systems to pay $75M for scheming Medicaid

Community Health Systems (CHS) and three affiliated New Mexico hospitals will pay a $75 million settlement to the feds for making illegal donations to county governments to reap more funding under a now-discontinued matching program, reports Modern Healthcare.  

The Justice Department alleged that CHS made improper donations to Chaves, Luna and San Miguel counties. The counties and state then used the donations to get federal matching Medicaid payments and funneled the proceeds back to the hospitals, according to the story.
