Castillo to direct quality evals for Joint Commission

The Joint Commission has appointed Daniel J. Castillo, MD, as the medical director in the division of healthcare quality evaluation, for which he will lead clinical, research and patient safety issues.

He will provide clinical expertise in the development of healthcare quality evaluation tools, including standards, survey processes and performance measures for Joint Commission accreditation and certification programs. Castillo also will work with external stakeholders such as physicians and national organizations to improve the evaluation of healthcare quality and safety.

Castillo most recently served as an emergency medicine physician at NorthShore University HealthSystem, in Evanston, Ill., where he led physicians-in-training, nurses and staff in direct patient care activities. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee, and completed his emergency medicine residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
