ACA insurers get bigger premium hikes than requested
In eight states, insurance regulators approved increases in health insurance premiums for Affordable Care Act exchange plans above what companies asked for, according to an analysis in USA Today.
In Pennsylvania, for example, insurers requested an average hike of 24.4 percent, but were given a 32.5 percent hike by the insurance regulator.
“These rate increases make it clear that Washington needs to move swiftly to address consumer needs under the Affordable Care Act," said Pennsylvania insurance commissioner Teresa Miller.
Similar scenarios played out in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota and Utah.
