HHS employees offered two months of pay to quit their jobs

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is facing an unknown number of layoffs as the Trump administration sweetens the pot for employees who will voluntarily resign.

According to a report from Bloomberg, some HHS workers have received an offer of two months' paid administrative leave if they abandon their posts. The offer of what is ostensibly severance pay comes in addition to the $25,000 buyout most employees at the agency were offered in another email sent last week.

“You will be carried in an administrative leave status, receiving full pay and benefits for eight (8) weeks after you are approved. This is in addition to the lump sum payment,” the new email obtained by Bloomberg reads.

The exact number of employees who received either buyout notice is unknown. However, an earlier report from NBC News cited sources that said nearly all employees at HHS were offered the initial $25,000 payment.

All buyout offers expire on Friday, a day after HHS is supposed to submit a plan for restructuring that involves slashing staff. The agency was ordered to do so in an executive order signed by President Donald Trump.
