Former Humana CEO and founder dies
David Jones, former CEO of Humana and one of the founders of the health insurer, died Sept. 18, according to Courier Journal. He was 88, the outlet reported.
Jones served as CEO of Humana for 37 years and as board chairman for 44 years before he retired in 2007. When Jones helped launch the company, he reportedly borrowed $1,000 to get what was would become the nation’s largest nursing home chain off the ground. Since then, the organization became the world’s largest hospital company before transforming into a health insurance company worth $37 billion, Courier Journal noted.
Over Jones’ time at the helm, Humana rose in prominence and grew in size as the company evolved, with Jones being both “revered and feared,” the report said.
The current CEO of Humana is Bruce Broussard, who has held the position since 2013.
