Use of scribes growing

The growing adoption of EHRs also is driving increased hiring of medical scribes, according to a report from Marketplace.

Physicians are responsible for what goes in patients' medical records and must review the information but turning most of the documentation over to scribes can free them up to see more patients.

Scribe America is one of the largest U.S. medical scribe companies in the U.S. and has tripled its employees to nearly 7,500 over the past year. And, the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists estimates that the number of medical scribes in the U.S. will increase from about 20,000 today to about 100,000 by 2020.
