N.Y. Hospital buys Siemens DR systemand charity benefits

John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, N.Y. has purchased a new direct radiography (DR) system and handed a sizeable check to a national charity at the same time.

As the winning bidder in an online auction, Mather Memorial is now the owner of a Siemens Healthcare Ysio DR system. In return the hospital handed over a check for $285,309 to the Children’s Health Fund (CHF), a national organization dedicated to providing healthcare for homeless and medically disadvantaged children and advocating on behalf of all children.

Siemens donated the Ysio to the CHF in December 2008, and in turn the charity set up on online auction over the period from December 8 to 18. The system’s list price is $450,000 and the starting bid was $99,999.
