KLAS ranks vendors' 2012 performance in nearly 100 categories
Market research firm KLAS released its 2012 rankings of health IT vendors and what they have to offer. Nearly 1,000 products and services were considered for the report and a variety of healthcare executives, managers and department heads from more than 6,000 organizations contributed a total of 19,802 unique evaluations to inform rankings.
Orem, Utah- based KLAS organized its rankings according to nearly 100 different market segments, such as emergency department, pharmacy, radiology, ambulatory EHR and surgery management. For the 2012 rankings, the clinical decision support category was split into three separate categories. Point of use inventory management and image archive debuted as new software market segments. Health information exchange consulting, ICD-10 consulting, image exchange, image archive outsourcing, release of information and revenue cycle outsourcing all debuted as new services market segments.
Epic topped more categories than any other vendor with the various services and products it offers. The Verona, Wis.-based company landed in the top spot for eight categories, including software vendor, software suite vendor and physician practice vendor. Impact Advisors, headquartered in Naperville, Ill., and athenahealth, headquartered in Watertown, Mass., tied for second, with each earning the top spot in three categories.
With a total of 21 vendors qualifying for spots in the overall software vendor rankings, Epic was followed by Wolters Klower, 3M, Nuance and MedAssets. These five vendors were the only ones recognized by a KLAS metric as being reliable and proven.
