HIMSS lauds Mostasharis appointment
The Health Information & Management Systems Society (HIMSS) praised the selection of Farzad Mostashari, MD, to lead the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC-HIT), announced Friday.
“We are very comfortable with the directions he advocates,” wrote H. Stephen Lieber, CAE, president and CEO of the Chicago-based group, in a statement. Lieber cited Mostashari’s leadership on issues including provider adoption, certification requirements and efforts to engage all communities in driving the innovation that is necessary for transforming healthcare.
“The announcement of his elevation to National Coordinator is timely, given the recent release of the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: 2011-2015. We look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Mostashari and the entire ONC team to leverage the goals and objectives identified in the Strategic Plan to address the ongoing transformation of healthcare using information technology,” the statement concluded.
