Blumenthal to chair Commonwealth Fund commission

David Blumenthal, MD, MPP, former National Coordinator for Health IT, has been named chairman of the Commonwealth Fund Commission on a High Performance Health System.

Blumenthal, who stepped down as National Coordinator in April after a two-year stint, is currently the Samuel O. Thier Professor of Medicine and Professor of Healthcare Policy at Massachusetts General Hospital/Partners HealthCare System and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

He succeeds James J. Mongan, MD, the founding chairman of the commission, who died May 3.

The 17-member Commission on a High Performance Health System develops recommendations promoting a high-performing health system that provides Americans with affordable access to high-quality, safe care while maximizing efficiency in its delivery and administration, according to the commission.
