Two Minnesota collaboratives align for combined HIE

Community Health Information Collaborative (CHIC) has announced the consolidation of its business operations with Minnesota Health Information Exchange (MN HIE).

The consolidation is intended to provide better support for meaningful use criteria and minimize expenses surrounding infrastructure costs for HIE across Minnesota, according to the Minneapolis-based CHIC. A letter of intent was executed by CHIC and MN HIE in June. CHIC becomes the surviving legal entity.

The consolidation of CHIC and MN HIE will result in a single state-certified health information organization (HIO), HIE-Bridge. HIE-Bridge currently serves 10 hospitals, 50 clinics, two long-term care facilities and three federally-qualified healthcare clinics.

Services following the consolidation include access to clinical summary information, immunization information, patients’ prescription medication history and eligibility information, CHIC added.
