R.I. to receive $11.3M in ARRA health IT grants
The Rhode Island Quality Institute (RIQI) will receive $11.28 million from two American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grants for health IT.
Specifically, RIQI will receive two separate grants:
“The Rhode Island Quality Institute is a national model of healthcare participants cooperating to transform healthcare,” said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., who last year spearheaded the effort to create health IT regional extension centers in the state to provide information and assistance to doctors who implement the new technology.
Specifically, RIQI will receive two separate grants:
- Health Information Exchange Award: 5.28 million; and
- Regional Extension Center Award: $6 million. Health IT regional extension centers will assist healthcare providers in integrating health IT systems. The funding will allow RIQI to provide technical assistance to doctors, hospitals and other healthcare providers.
