Nevada creates health IT task force

Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons has formed the Health IT Blue Ribbon Task Force, which will consist of experts and stakeholders in healthcare, IT, government, insurance, business and other industries.

According to the governor’s office, a statewide IT network will provide higher quality healthcare by improving the continuity of patient treatment, reducing duplicative treatments or tests, and enabling early detection of infectious disease outbreaks. Also, the use of a secure statewide health information exchange (HIE) will give healthcare providers access to vital health information at the point of patient care, while ensuring the privacy and security of personal medical information.

The Health IT Blue Ribbon Task Force will provide recommendations to the governor’s office by April 30, 2010. Funding for health IT planning and implementation has been made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
