Mirth selected for Florida statewide HIE

Open-source healthcare IT developer Mirth has been selected to power the planned statewide health information exchange (HIE) in Florida. As part of the HIE implementation, Mirth technology will be made available to all healthcare providers statewide, delivered on the Mirth appliance framework.

Mirth technology will allow individual healthcare providers and practices statewide to exchange patient information electronically when caring for shared patients, stated Mirth, of Irvine, Calif.

Mirth will employ the technical standards and use cases provided by the Direct Project, an open government initiative developed by the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, the company added.
