Humana acquires HIE tech developer

Health insurance provider Humana has acquired Certify Data Systems, a health information exchange (HIE) technology developer. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Certify's HealthLogix Enterprise HIE platform provides two-way sharing of clinical information across EHR systems, connecting providers and allowing them to share relevant patient health information. The acquisition by Louisville, Ky.-based Humana will support the company’s efforts to help its national provider network leverage the benefits of HIE technology, according to a release.

Marc Willard, founder and CEO of Certify Data Systems, will continue to lead the San Jose, Calif.-based company. Certify will operate as a subsidiary of Humana, serving hospital, physician and laboratory customers.
