Epic links Texas providers through HIE
A health information exchange (HIE) provided by Epic Systems enables healthcare delivery system Texas Health Resources and Children’s Medical Center in Dallas to electronically exchange medical information on mutually treated patients.
This is the first such exchange in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to Texas Health.
The ability to share information allows providers to have the necessary data to treat their patients without having to wait for records or duplicate tests, according to Texas Health, of Arlington. When necessary, records from past treatments at any of Texas Health's 13 hospitals and clinics are transferred to Children’s via the HIE.
The records are then available within the Children’s EHR and do not require manual transcription or faxing, Texas Health added.
