Colorado’s largest medical labs linked up to HIE

Quest Diagnostics’ recent entry into Colorado’s health information exchange (HIE)—Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO)—means that all of the state’s largest medical laboratories are now linked to the exchange, according to CORHIO.

Quest Diagnostics, a provider of diagnostic information services, operates a clinical laboratory in Denver that serves patients in Colorado. It joins other lab vendors participating in the CORHIO, including LabCorp and Colorado Laboratory Services.

CORHIO estimates that more than 60 percent of all medical lab tests performed in the state can exchange data on the network.

"The nation's leading medical labs and the hospital labs recognize that delivering patient results through a community-based electronic health information exchange not only helps improve patient care, but also helps keep the costs of technology low for providers," said CORHIO CEO Larry Wolk, MD, in a statement.
