AHIMA offers new copy, transcription toolkits

The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) is offering a Copy Functionality Toolkit eBook and Transcription Toolkit eBook to help health information management leaders develop practices that will ensure the quality of information in a health record.

According to the Chicago-based organization, the Copy Functionality Toolkit eBook, designed to assist health professionals in developing policies and procedures for copying and pasting information within an EHR, helps users:
  • Identify the risks of copy and paste;
  • Learn when the copy functionality may be appropriately used in the health record; and
  • Address fraud and abuse billing concerns when duplicate documentation is identified.

The Transcription Toolkit eBook helps professionals:
  • Recognize structured vs. unstructured data for an EHR;
  • Practice supporting the transition to include use of automated speech recognition and natural language processing;
  • Ensure integrity and security of protected health information;
  • Increase productivity and quality; and
  • Learn the outsourcing guidelines and transcription roles and responsibilities.
