The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has named 21 people as members of its Health Care Industry Cybersecurity Task Force, a collaboration of leaders in the public and private sectors that will address cybersecurity issues in healthcare.

Establishment of the task force was a provision of the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015. The group is charged with evaluating best practices for data and connected medical devices security. The task force will present their findings in the next year.

The 21 task force members represent hospitals, payers, patient advocates, security researchers, vendors, pharmaceutical companies and laboratories. They were selected based on recommendations from a panel of subject matter experts from HHS, Department of Homeland Security and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
