$100k stolen from Franciscan Health

A former contractor has been charged with stealing $100,000 in equipment from Wash.-based Franciscan Health Care, reports The News Tribune.

The contractor, Justin Robert Pace, had previously worked at Franciscan Health Care, and the healthcare provider had failed to deactivate and collect his ID badge. Pace used the badge to surreptitiously enter the facility over more than two months, according to prosecutors.

Overall, he allegedly stole 40 computers, three 21-inch monitors, 34 scanners and an overhead projector. Surveillance cameras captured Pace walking away with cardboard boxes, according to records from the court.

The health system discovered Pace’s ID was still activated in October before they were linked to the thefts. The former contractor has admitted to the thefts but pled not guilty.
