Patient communication AI company receives $65M in funding from private equity

A healthcare AI company working in the area of patient communications has received another $65 million in funding, coming in as it announces $100 million in annual revenue. The influx of cash comes from Lead Edge Capital and Jackson Square Ventures, two private equity companies with an interest in technology.

Artera said in an announcement it now serves more than 1,000 healthcare organizations, including specialty groups, federally qualified health centers, and federal agencies. The company reports that its solutions have engaged over 200 million patients and facilitated more than 2 billion patient-provider interactions annually.

With the funds, it intends to expand its core technology—a form of “agentic AI” which looks to automate administrative and business tasks, such as appointment scheduling, prescription refills, and patient follow-ups.

"The race to leverage agentic AI in healthcare will not be won with technology alone; building AI agents is quickly becoming commoditized," Guillaume de Zwirek, CEO and Co-Founder of Artera, said in a statement. "Success requires technology paired with deep domain experience, extensive real-world data, and distribution channels that allow for quick and easy activation. Artera has all three, which provides an essential and defensible competitive moat."

The company boasts that in bringing in historical patient data, it’s able to make technology-mediated “social” interactions—the word “agentic” referring to systems that have the capability to appear to understand human cognition and communication.

From scheduling to follow-up

Artera has a number of AI products that fit into healthcare workflows, with the aim of saving staff hours and freeing up clinicians to provide better patient care. Its virtual agents—essentially chatbots and related management products—were unveiled in 2024 at the Artera Heartbeat Annual Customer Conference. These include options to manage patient communications, facilitate them, and offer care insights to providers based on feedback, all driven by collected data on patients.
