ATA recognizes telehealth leaders

The American Telemedicine Association has announced the winners of the 2011 ATA Annual Awards. The awards recognize individuals and organizations for their contributions to the development of telemedicine.

The following award winners were announced:

  • ATA President’s Award for the Advancement of TelemedicineIndividual: Dena Puskin, ScD, senior advisor, health IT and telehealth policy, Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Rockville, Md.
  • ATA President’s Award for the Advancement of TelemedicineInstitutional: University of Arkansas for Medical Science, Little Rock, Ark.
  • ATA President’s Award for the Advancement of TelemedicineInnovation: Michael D. Abramoff, MD, PhD, associate professor of ophthalmology, University of Iowa Health Care, Iowa City, Iowa; and Hubble Telemedical, Nashville, Tenn.
  • ATA Industry Council Award: Alice Borrelli, director of global health and workforce policy, Intel
  • Special Interest Group & Chapter Achievement Award: The ATA Telehealth Nursing Special Interest Group

The ATA Annual Awards winners are selected by a peer committee of telemedicine leaders from academia and industry, according to the Washington, D.C.-based group, which promotes the use of advanced remote medical technologies.

Winners will accept their awards at the ATA 2011 Meeting and Exposition May 1-3, in Tampa, Fla., the ATA stated.
